Positionality Statement

Positionality is the social and political context that creates your identity in terms of race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability status. Your identity influences and potentially biases your understanding of and outlook on the world.

I am a white able bodied queer cisgender female. I was raised in a middle class two parent household. I hold multiple advanced degrees and am comfortably middle class.

The majority of my intersectional identities afford me power and privilege in the spaces I frequent. While I am committed to advancing the causes of antiracism, accessibility, and equity, I recognize a need to continue learning and growing given my privilege and the bias and blindness it can cause.

Land Acknowledgement

I acknowledge that I live and work on the ancestral lands of the Piscataway and Tuscarora peoples, who have endured the devastating impacts of colonialism. The injustices inflicted upon Indigenous communities include dispossession, marginalization, and displacement. While I myself am not responsible for these outcomes, I do benefit from them. As such, I am committed to supporting Indigenous communities as they continue to battle systemic injustices. I demonstrate this commitment by donating monthly to the First Nation's Development Institute, linked below.
